UA.NEWS on Wednesday detailed the projected dates for the upcoming Islamic holy month and associated holiday in the UAE. Astronomical calculations place the first day of Ramadan on February 8 2027 following a 30-day Sha’ban. The month itself is expected to run for 29 or 30 days with the precise length to be determined by moon sighting closer to the time.

The same projections indicate that Eid al-Fitr will commence on March 9 if Ramadan lasts 29 days or on March 10 if it extends to a full 30 days. UAE authorities traditionally rely on the moon-sighting committee for final confirmation of all Hijri dates. This approach ensures alignment with actual celestial observations rather than purely computational forecasts.

Public holiday provisions for Eid al-Fitr include three official days with an additional day added if the 30th day of Ramadan qualifies as a holiday a government resolution shows. When combined with the weekend in 2027 this structure could deliver a six-day break for many residents Khaleej Times figures show. Such extended periods influence travel plans and business operations across the federation.

The projected February 8 start represents a shift of roughly 10 days earlier than the 2026 observance which began on February 18 according to historical records from the UAE Astronomy Centre. The lunar-based Hijri calendar moves backward by 10 to 12 days annually relative to the Gregorian year. This predictable pattern allows government bodies schools and private enterprises to prepare well in advance for adjustments in working hours and fasting schedules.

The International Astronomical Center supplied the core data underpinning these 2027 projections a methodology that regional states including the UAE have adopted for planning purposes. Similar forecasts have been issued for Eid al-Adha later in the year anticipated around mid-May. Official announcements typically follow in the months leading up to each event to provide certainty for the population.

UAE labour regulations mandate reduced working hours during Ramadan for both public and private sector employees the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation has previously stated. Employers are required to accommodate prayer times and ensure compliance with fasting norms where applicable. The early announcement of projected dates supports smoother implementation of these rules across the diverse expatriate and national workforce.
