The Central Bank of the UAE released its Monetary and Banking Developments report for July 2026 on September 9, showing sustained expansion in the sector. Gross banks’ assets rose 1.3 percent during the month to AED5.67 trillion, according to the report. Gross credit facilities advanced 1.5 percent to AED2.8 trillion over the same period, the Central Bank of the UAE figures show.

Domestic credit grew 1.4 percent to AED2.21 trillion while foreign credit increased 1.8 percent to AED592.9 billion, the report stated. The expansion in domestic credit stemmed mainly from higher lending to the private sector. Credit to individuals rose 2.3 percent by AED13.9 billion and corporate lending climbed 1.1 percent by AED10.9 billion, with government lending also up 1.7 percent by AED4.2 billion.

Deposits at UAE banks expanded 1.1 percent to AED3.51 trillion at the end of July 2026, according to the Central Bank of the UAE. Resident deposits edged 0.5 percent higher to AED3.198 trillion while non-resident deposits jumped 6.8 percent to AED311.4 billion. Private sector deposits within the resident category contributed the largest share to the monthly increase.

Electronic transfers processed through the banking system totalled AED2.529 trillion in July, the report noted. Interbank transfers accounted for AED1.625 trillion of that amount with customer transfers making up AED904.15 billion. Cumulative transfers for the first seven months of 2026 exceeded AED16.9 trillion, Central Bank of the UAE data places the total at that level.

The latest monthly gains build on longer-term growth in which total banking assets stood at AED5.3 trillion at the end of 2025, a Central Bank of the UAE Financial Stability Report found. Net profits across the system reached AED90.8 billion that year, up 11.7 percent from the prior year. Asset quality also improved with the non-performing loan ratio declining to 3.3 percent by the end of 2025.

Cheque clearing activity continued alongside digital transfers with AED115.7 billion processed through 1.861 million cheques in July, according to the Central Bank of the UAE. The report provides regular updates on these metrics as part of its oversight of monetary and banking trends. Such data helps track the sector’s contribution to broader economic activity in the UAE.
