Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan has welcomed the creation of Zayed the Founder Day, saying the new national occasion renews pride in the UAE’s founding values. The Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Presidential Court issued the statement on October 28, 2026 after President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan announced that January 7 would mark the annual day dedicated to the legacy of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. According to The National, Sheikh Mansour noted that the announcement renews the legacy of the Founding Father and the values on which the nation was built. He added that the greatest tribute to Sheikh Zayed is that his vision lives within the people and his values remain firmly rooted in generations to come.

President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan described Sheikh Zayed as a leader whose life was defined by vision, generosity and service to humanity in a post on X that The National cited. The President established the day to ensure these values continue to guide the country’s progress and to transform wisdom into action. The observance is intended to engage both individuals and institutions in activities that keep the Founding Father’s principles alive year-round.

The selection of January 7 connects to the seven emirates that united to form the UAE in 1971, Khaleej Times reported. This distinguishes it from Eid Al Etihad on December 2, which commemorates the actual founding of the federation. The new day will particularly target younger Emiratis to learn about Sheikh Zayed’s contributions to the nation’s development.

Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan served as the first President of the UAE from its inception until his death in 2004. During his tenure, he oversaw the rapid modernisation of the country, laying the foundations for its current prosperity, according to standard historical accounts of the federation. The announcement builds on previous initiatives, including a strategic plan for The Founder’s Office that Sheikh Mansour approved earlier in 2026. Gulf News reported that the plan seeks to make Sheikh Zayed’s legacy a living source of inspiration for current and future generations.

Sheikh Mansour has consistently emphasised the importance of activating the Founding Father’s philosophy in facing future challenges, according to statements reported by Gulf News. In remarks carried by the outlet, he has described Sheikh Zayed’s thought as an integral part of the national heritage. Federal Competitiveness and Statistics Centre figures show Emirati citizens comprise roughly 11 to 12 percent of the UAE’s total population, making such national days vital for reinforcing shared history and values.
