Baker McKenzie said in a statement that the firm intends to move its Amsterdam operations to The Canyon, a new tower on the Zuidas designed as part of the larger Harmony project. The relocation targets improved facilities that support collaboration in a mixed-use setting, with completion of the building expected toward the end of the decade. Powerhouse Company developed the plans for The Canyon and its counterpart The Coast to bridge the Zuidas business zone with the adjacent Ravel residential area, an ArchDaily review of the project showed.

The Canyon incorporates organic forms with soft edges and warm material tones drawn from natural landscapes, according to the architectural description published by Powerhouse Company. Office and residential elements sit alongside communal gardens intended to encourage interaction across uses. This approach forms part of ongoing Zuidas transformation that has added more than 1.4 million square meters of leased office space by the end of 2023, Zuidas.nl data shows.

Baker McKenzie currently occupies the Baker McKenzie House at Claude Debussylaan 54, a property acquired in September 2026 by CBRE Global Investors and partners from a Nordic fund, a Europe Real Estate report stated. The firm had extended its lease there in early 2023 for roughly 9,500 square meters ahead of planned renovation, PropertyNL reported at the time. Such transactions often signal tenant reviews of long-term space needs as ownership changes hands.

Several other organisations have made similar adjustments in the Zuidas in recent years, including BarentsKrans which established a new office in the district in November 2024 to address rising demand for its corporate and finance practices. Cushman & Wakefield signed for space in The Pulse of Amsterdam with occupancy set for December 2026, the real estate advisor said in its own release. These moves highlight the district’s appeal for entities requiring proximity to transport hubs and complementary amenities.

Zuidas maintains its position as the Netherlands’ leading office market through continued infrastructure upgrades, among them the Brittenpassage at Amsterdam Zuid station that opened in November 2026 to improve passenger flow. The area hosts major law practices, banks and multinational headquarters, with further development focused on balancing commercial space against housing and public areas. Baker McKenzie’s planned address at The Canyon will place it within this environment once the building opens.

The Harmony project divides into five volumes scaled to fit the existing urban fabric while adding retail and community features at ground level, Powerhouse Company documentation indicated. This configuration supports the district’s shift toward multifunctional spaces that remain active beyond traditional business hours. Further details on timelines for individual tenant moves will emerge as construction advances on the site.
