The UAE attorney general ordered the formation of a specialized investigation team on October 1 2026 to examine an incident aboard flydubai flight FZ1073 that occurred the previous day. According to the Emirates News Agency Dr. Hamad Saif Al Shamsi directed public prosecution specialists to determine the facts circumstances and motives behind the mid-flight altercation. The team is coordinating with the General Civil Aviation Authority and other UAE entities while also assessing any potential links to terrorist activity or premeditated planning.

The flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv was diverted to Tabuk in Saudi Arabia after the cockpit disturbance where it landed safely. Reports from The National described how the Boeing 737 dropped 14000 feet during the event leaving the pilot and co-pilot injured. Passengers and off-duty crew members stepped in to help subdue the situation and assist in the emergency landing.

UAE judicial authorities hold jurisdiction because the aircraft is registered in the UAE and operates under its flag. Al Shamsi stated that UAE law therefore applies to any crimes committed on the plane regardless of the incident’s location. The attorney general further called for all evidence to be collected thoroughly before any conclusions are drawn.

Flydubai reported that an altercation took place in the flight deck prompting crew intervention to secure the aircraft. The plane was carrying 174 passengers when it made the unscheduled stop at Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz International Airport. Saudi officials facilitated the safe arrival for which the UAE expressed appreciation according to a statement from the attorney general’s office.

Early coverage of the event included multiple inaccuracies about key details such as participant nationalities according to the attorney general’s office. Al Shamsi urged the public and media to refrain from spreading unverified claims until the investigation concludes. Official statements will be the sole basis for information moving forward as Ammon News reported in its coverage of the UAE directive.

The probe involves coordination with Saudi authorities as part of evidence gathering on the cross-border elements of the case. A statement distributed by the Emirates News Agency noted that the attorney general has stressed the need to await verified facts from competent sources. Flydubai as a low-cost carrier maintains regular operations across the region with the incident marking a rare disruption to its services.
