Thirty members of the Jadara batch of Attorney General Deputies took the legal oath before Sayyid Mohammed Sultan Al Busaidi the Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Judiciary Council on September 24 2026 according to the Oman News Agency. Attorney General Nasr Khamis Al Sawai attended the Muscat ceremony which marks the new deputies’ official entry into the judicial system. The Oman News Agency reported that the event aligns with continued development of the judiciary in the Sultanate and supports the goals of Oman Vision 2040 which seeks an effective legislative and judicial framework with independent specialised institutions and well-qualified national cadres. The agency added that the deputies will now undertake responsibilities in applying legal provisions initiating public actions and safeguarding rights and freedoms to reinforce the rule of law and deliver prompt justice.
The swearing-in followed Article 11 of the Public Prosecution Law issued by Royal Decree 92/99 the Oman News Agency stated. This legal step authorises the deputies to assume their judicial duties after recent royal decrees amended the entity’s name from Public Prosecution to Attorney General’s office and appointed Al Sawai to the top post. The name change under Royal Decree 80/2026 and the appointment via Royal Decree 81/2026 both issued earlier in September 2026 and published in the Official Gazette reflect updates to better match the office’s constitutional role as part of the judicial authority. Oman News Agency accounts placed the timing of the oath-taking directly after completion of required preparations for the new cohort.
Members of the Jadara batch fulfilled academic and practical requirements through the Postgraduate Diploma Programme in Judicial Sciences at the High Judicial Institute the Oman News Agency detailed. They also completed at least two years of practical training in geographic and specialised departments of the Public Prosecution in line with Article 10 of the relevant law. Such preparation equips the deputies with enhanced legal knowledge and refined practical skills before they begin independent work. Previous batches have followed identical pathways with comparable training periods documented in earlier Oman News Agency dispatches on similar ceremonies held in 2024 and 2025.

The Public Prosecution gained explicit constitutional standing under the 2021 Basic Statute of the State which positioned it within the judicial authority to handle public actions oversee judicial police and ensure enforcement of penal laws.
