Iran’s judiciary reported that chief Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei held a meeting with Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, who has not appeared in public since his appointment in March. The discussions focused on securing public rights, combating corruption and its root causes, and pursuing compensation for damages from what were described as American-Zionist crimes, according to the judiciary’s Mizan Online website. The Tehran Times reported that Khamenei called for broader access to justice, swift handling of cases and greater use of technology to improve oversight during the encounter. No images, video or details on the timing and location were released.
Mojtaba Khamenei succeeded his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, after the elder leader was killed in US-Israeli strikes in late February that also injured the son, The Times of Israel reported. Since taking office, the younger Khamenei has communicated solely through written messages, some published in attributed handwriting, with no video recordings made public. The absence has fueled ongoing speculation about his condition, as noted in multiple reports by Al Arabiya English throughout the year.
The meeting aligns with a series of reported encounters involving senior officials and the reclusive leader. Earlier in the week, parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf met with Mojtaba Khamenei to review developments in the conflict with the United States and Israel, according to state television cited by Al Arabiya English. Iranian officials have consistently withheld visuals or specific logistics from these gatherings, following an established pattern since the leadership transition.
President Masoud Pezeshkian stated in August that communication with the supreme leader remained very difficult amid the conflict, Al Arabiya English reported. Pezeshkian nevertheless described the leader’s guidance as a significant source of strength for addressing national challenges. In a July statement, the president noted that interactions with Mojtaba Khamenei were increasing daily to tackle Iran’s economic and other difficulties.
Khamenei emphasized the need for tangible judicial transformation, timely enforcement of rulings and accountability for officials whose inaction constitutes offenses, the Tehran Times reported from the meeting. He called for comprehensive plans to fight crime in coordination with other bodies while eliminating conditions that enable violations. At the start of the session, Mohseni Ejei briefed the leader on plans for his new term, including updates to the judicial transformation document and accelerated digitalization of processes.
The judiciary chief’s briefing highlighted efforts to reduce case processing times and costs while enhancing the integrity of judicial personnel, according to Mehr News Agency. These steps form part of a broader push to strengthen public trust through decisive anti-corruption actions and improved justice delivery. The reports emerge as Iran deals with the economic fallout from the ongoing regional war that began with the strikes on Tehran.
