UAE state news agency WAM reported that the welcome took place as Sheikh Mohamed arrived by motorcade at the historic lakeside residence for the second day of his state visit. The ceremony featured the playing of the UAE and German national anthems followed by the president’s inspection of a guard of honour. Sheikh Mohamed then signed the villa’s VIP guestbook.

In the guestbook Sheikh Mohamed expressed his pleasure at visiting Germany and noted the longstanding partnership between the two countries that is rooted in friendship and cooperation according to WAM. He further hoped for the continued strengthening of relations between the nations and their peoples. The UAE president was subsequently introduced to attending German ministers and senior officials while President Steinmeier greeted the UAE delegation members.

The delegation accompanying Sheikh Mohamed includes Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan along with Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Court for Special Affairs Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Adviser to the UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan is also part of the group as are several other ministers and senior officials. WAM detailed the full composition of the party that first arrived in Berlin the previous day.

The state visit began on September 9 with Sheikh Mohamed’s aircraft receiving a military escort upon entering German airspace a Khaleej Times dispatch indicated. An official arrival ceremony that day included a 21-gun salute and guard of honour. The trip marks the first state visit by the UAE president to Germany since he took office.

Diplomatic relations between the UAE and Germany were established in 1972 and upgraded to a strategic partnership in 2004 Gulf News reported. The two countries have since developed close cooperation in numerous fields with an emphasis on economic ties and energy security. Approximately 2,000 German companies maintain a presence in the UAE according to The National.

Bilateral trade volume exceeded 13.56 billion euros in 2025 while German imports from the UAE rose by more than 50 percent during that period a Gulf News assessment found. The National placed the figure at over 15.5 billion dollars highlighting the depth of commercial exchanges. The National reported that Sheikh Mohamed is scheduled to meet German Chancellor Friedrich Merz during the visit to address economic and development cooperation as well as regional issues.
