The Ministry of Health said in a press statement that the ministerial decision covers both newly priced products and reductions on existing ones across a range of therapeutic categories. Those categories include oncology medicines new cholesterol-lowering drugs treatments for epilepsy and allergies as well as pain relief medications antibiotics antifungals and aids for smoking cessation. The statement added that the changes follow technical reviews and periodic price studies comparing local costs to reference markets and GCC and international standards.
According to the ministry the decision ensures prices remain competitive while quality efficacy and pharmaceutical safety standards stay intact. This latest step brings the cumulative number of medicines and products subject to pricing and reduction decisions over the past three years to 2760. Kuwait Times reported that the ministry frames the prices as the lowest among GCC countries.
A ministerial decision issued in May 2026 had raised the running total to 1922 items according to announcements from that period. The August action therefore expands the covered list by more than 800 products in a span of months. Earlier reductions in 2025 had already placed 144 medicines among the lowest-priced in the Gulf the ministry previously stated.
BioNixus market analysis values Kuwait’s pharmaceutical expenditure at approximately 1.9 billion dollars in 2024 with per-capita spending among the highest in the region. The wider GCC pharmaceutical market stood at 23.7 billion dollars that year and a BioNixus assessment projects compound annual growth of 7.6 percent carrying the total toward 37 billion dollars by 2030. These figures reflect the volume of medicines subject to the repeated pricing adjustments.
The ministry did not publish the individual names of the 517 products or detail the size of each price change in its statement. Arab Times reported that the decision forms part of continuous review of drug pricing policies. The ministry indicated that comparisons with Gulf and global benchmarks guide the adjustments to maintain market stability.
