Fujairah Civil Defence responded to an emergency in which a child and a domestic worker fell into an uncovered indoor well at a private home in the emirate. Colonel Khalid Rabie Al Hamoudi the deputy director visited the family to assess the child’s condition and also met with the domestic worker at Fujairah Hospital where she is recovering. The rapid rescue operation ensured both individuals were brought to safety with the child reported in good health overall.

The authority issued an urgent warning on Monday directing property owners farmers and landowners to cover and seal all wells in a secure manner. Fujairah Police supported the directive with a public statement highlighting the hazards of unsecured wells. According to the police wells must never be left uncovered or without fences as it poses a serious risk to children and adults.

This incident represents the latest in a series of well-related rescues across Fujairah. The National reported in 2022 that a six-year-old Emirati girl was pulled from a well in the Dibba area of the emirate with the Deputy Prime Minister later visiting her in hospital. That event similarly focused attention on the necessity of vigilance around such structures in residential zones.

A 2017 case detailed by The National involved police rescuing an eight-year-old boy from a 20-metre well in Al Bidya after a resident heard calls for help. The boy’s mother and the property owner were summoned for questioning following that rescue. Authorities at the time urged greater parental oversight and reminded the public that every well requires proper covering.

Fujairah Civil Defence maintains specialised teams trained in confined-space extractions using ropes and other equipment for narrow wells. The latest successful rescue followed a swift deployment by emergency responders. Colonel Al Hamoudi ‘s hospital visits reflect the body’s approach of combining immediate response with direct follow-up on victim welfare.

Past incidents have prompted repeated safety campaigns by police and civil defence in the emirate. The National ‘s coverage of earlier events shows a pattern of both residential and agricultural wells featuring in such accidents over the years. Officials continue to stress preventive covering as the primary means of avoiding injury or worse outcomes.
