The Abu Dhabi Court for Family, Civil and Administrative Cases has dismissed a father’s lawsuit against his daughter over a vehicle, ordering him to cover all associated court costs, according to a report in Emarat Al Youm. The ruling followed the daughter’s decisive oath that she had neither received the car nor held it in her possession. Court officials applied standard legal procedures for cases lacking documentary evidence, resulting in the full rejection of the claim.

The lawsuit, as detailed by Emarat Al Youm, sought to compel the daughter to complete all procedures for transferring the vehicle’s registration to her name at the traffic and licensing department. In the alternative, the father requested an order requiring her to return the vehicle, which held a value of Dh10,000 along with Dh500 in outstanding traffic violations. The claim stemmed from the father’s assertion that he had provided the car for her use yet faced refusal to formalize ownership or clear the fines.

Emarat Al Youm reported that the father handed the vehicle to his daughter for her personal use but maintained it remained his property pending transfer. The daughter challenged the assertions during proceedings, prompting the court to direct the decisive oath toward her. This step resolved the matter without need for additional expert review or witness testimony.

The court’s published reasoning, cited in the Emarat Al Youm coverage, noted that a decisive oath is typically invoked when a litigant lacks other proof and functions as a high-stakes precautionary measure. After the daughter swore the oath in its required form, the court accepted the binding legal outcome and ruled against the father. UAE civil procedure has long recognised this evidentiary tool in family and personal status disputes where documentation falls short.

Similar ownership challenges in Abu Dhabi have repeatedly hinged on official registration and written agreements, a pattern reflected across multiple rulings by the Federal Supreme Court. The Roads and Transport Authority has consistently stated that the name on the vehicle licence establishes primary legal ownership and responsibility for violations. Legal analysts reviewing 2025 cases observed that verbal arrangements or simple handovers rarely override registered titles without supporting contracts.

Emarat Al Youm noted that the father retains the right to pursue future claims if new evidence emerges, though the current decision upholds the status quo on registration. The case adds to a series of family-linked vehicle disputes heard in Abu Dhabi courts this year, where evidentiary standards have determined outcomes in nearly all instances. Court statistics from prior years indicate such matters form a notable portion of the civil docket in the emirate.
