The UAE’s electric vehicle repair sector has succeeded in completing the majority of jobs within 14 days despite ongoing challenges with parts availability, according to a report published by Gulf Business. Workshops have adapted by stocking more common components locally and investing in technician training programs tailored to EV technology. This performance comes as EV adoption accelerates in the country, supported by government incentives and an expanding charging network, a Gulf Business assessment found.
Supply chain constraints remain a key hurdle with many EV parts being VIN-specific and requiring global sourcing that can extend repair times in complex cases, the report highlighted. Certified EV bodyshops are still limited across the emirates forcing some repairs to be routed through specialised facilities. Industry players are collaborating with manufacturers to shorten lead times for critical items like battery modules and sensors.
Central Bank of the UAE data indicates that these repair economics including higher costs for battery packs and advanced systems have contributed to elevated insurance premiums for EVs compared to traditional vehicles. The regulator noted that limited spare parts availability and a shortage of service centres are among the technical challenges affecting the market. Insurers have had to account for longer potential downtime when pricing policies.
Sector analysis shows the UAE’s EV market has seen significant growth with sales increasing as the country pushes toward sustainable transport goals. However the rapid influx of brands particularly from China has strained the after-sales service network in some instances. Workshops in Dubai and Abu Dhabi generally offer shorter wait times than those in the northern emirates.
Efforts to address the parts delays include the establishment of new distribution centers and partnerships with global suppliers according to industry updates. One such initiative has seen improved inventory management reducing average delivery times for emergency parts. The industry is also focusing on expanding the number of certified technicians through dedicated training courses.
While most routine repairs are now handled promptly high-voltage battery issues or rare component failures can still result in extended waits of up to several weeks a separate review of Chinese-brand servicing found. Owners are advised to select insurance policies that include provisions for courtesy cars during prolonged repair periods. The situation is expected to improve as local parts stockpiles grow and more facilities gain EV certification.
