Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, known as the Mother of the Nation, chairs the General Women’s Union, serves as president of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood and acts as supreme chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation, according to the agency. Sheikha Fatima has driven key policies that expanded women’s participation in public life, the Emirates News Agency added in its coverage of the annual observance. The theme for 2026 builds on prior years by emphasising resilience and continued advancement while aligning with the national Year of the Family.

The World Economic Forum’s Global Gender Gap Report placed the UAE first in the region for 2025 while the country secured second place globally in women’s parliamentary representation according to the 2026 IMD World Competitiveness Ranking, the Emirates News Agency noted. Women occupy half the seats in the Federal National Council following legislative measures that institutionalised balanced participation, official figures show.
