The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation outlined the precise costs associated with part-time work permits in an announcement on Thursday. Foreign applicants encounter an application fee set at AED 100, with an additional AED 500 charged once the permit receives approval. This brings the full expense to AED 600, a figure the government presented as covering both stages of the process for individuals seeking to combine full-time and part-time roles.

Official UAE government data shows that labour regulations have supported part-time arrangements alongside full-time employment since 2010. The framework requires workers to secure a dedicated permit from the ministry before beginning any secondary job. “Since 2010, the UAE’s Labour Law has made provisions that allow an employee to have a part-time job along with a full-time one, subject to certain conditions. The employee can work part-time after getting the work permit from MoHRE,” the platform stated.

The ministry directs secondary employers to file the part-time permit application on the worker’s behalf. Documentation demanded in the process includes a valid passport copy, residence visa, Emirates ID, a signed part-time contract and any profession-specific licenses, according to ministry procedures. Applications typically receive review within several working days when submitted with complete and accurate materials.

MOHRE guidelines establish that each part-time work permit holds validity for one year from the date of issuance. Holders may engage in secondary employment for fewer than eight hours per day provided their aggregate hours across all positions respect statutory weekly limits. The permit extends to expatriate residents on valid visas as well as certain other categories under defined eligibility rules.

Standard full-time work permits carry variable fees that depend on the employer’s classification within the ministry’s compliance system. Companies demonstrating strong adherence to labour laws, wage protection and diversity policies fall into lower-fee tiers that start at AED 250 for two-year permits while those with violations face charges reaching AED 3,450, ministry records indicate. This graduated scale forms part of broader efforts to incentivise regulatory compliance across private-sector establishments.

Federal regulations impose a AED 50,000 fine on any company found employing an expatriate without the required part-time permit. The penalty applies under provisions of Federal Decree Law No. 2 of 2007 and can increase for repeated infractions, official texts specify. The ministry maintains active oversight to ensure all secondary employment occurs within the approved legal framework.
