Abdulaziz Taher Alkhateeb and Dr. Fawaz Khaled Alkhateeb have been named in ALB’s 2026 MENA Super 50, bringing two generations of leadership at a Kuwaiti law firm into the same regional selection.
Two lawyers from Kuwait’s Taher Group Law Firm have been selected for the 2026 MENA Super 50 Lawyers list compiled by Asian Legal Business, part of Thomson Reuters. The recognition brings together Abdulaziz Taher Alkhateeb, the firm’s founding partner and head of the group, and Dr. Fawaz Khaled Alkhateeb, its managing executive partner.
The selection, reported by Al Qabas on 7 October, connects two distinct careers within the same practice: a senior lawyer whose work spans decades of Kuwaiti court proceedings and arbitration, and a managing partner whose background combines litigation, corporate and financial law, and academic research.
It also comes ahead of a separate regional awards programme. Taher Group and members of its team have been reported as finalists in 10 categories at the ALB Middle East Law Awards 2026. The awards ceremony is scheduled for 5 November in Dubai, giving the firm a further regional milestone later this year.
A regional list built on client recommendations
The basis of the Super 50 selection gives the recognition a particular character. In its 2026 survey announcement, ALB invited clients to recommend private-practice lawyers based permanently in the Middle East and North Africa and explain why they were recommending them.
The programme covers practitioners across jurisdictions including Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman and Egypt. Its regional scope places lawyers working within different national legal systems in the same client-recommendation exercise.
For the two Kuwaiti lawyers, inclusion provides a shared point of recognition across substantially different stages of professional life. It also places their work before an audience beyond the domestic market, through a publication whose coverage encompasses law firms, corporate legal departments and legal services across the region.
The Super 50 list and the November awards represent separate forms of recognition. The first identifies individual practitioners through the client recommendation process described by ALB; the second includes firm and individual award categories. Their timing brings both the people leading the practice and the wider organisation into focus.
A career rooted in Kuwait’s courts
Abdulaziz Alkhateeb’s official biography identifies him as founding partner and head of Taher Group. A law graduate of Cairo University in 1969, he has practised before Kuwait’s courts for more than five decades, including the Constitutional Court and Court of Cassation.
His career also includes arbitration work with institutions such as the GCC Commercial Arbitration Centre, the Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Kuwaiti Lawyers Association. The firm records previous board membership at the Kuwait Judicial Institute and the lawyers’ association, alongside contributions to the drafting and amendment of Kuwaiti legislation.
Those roles place his professional history across several connected parts of legal practice: representing clients in court, resolving commercial disputes through arbitration, and participating in the institutions that support the profession. His current responsibilities include the group’s strategic direction and oversight of complex litigation and advisory work.
The recognition therefore reaches beyond a single transaction or case. It brings a career built within Kuwait’s judicial and professional institutions into a regional list that also includes lawyers working in the Gulf’s other commercial centres.
Corporate law, litigation and legal education
Fawaz Alkhateeb’s route into practice combines Kuwaiti legal training with postgraduate study in Britain. According to his professional biography, he graduated in law from Kuwait University in 2009, completed a master’s degree in corporate law at the University of Manchester in 2012, and earned a doctorate in finance law at Durham University in 2021.
He is admitted to practise before Kuwait’s courts, including its highest courts, and holds the managing executive partner role at Taher Group. His professional work spans corporate and financial matters as well as disputes, while his academic activity has included teaching at Kuwait International Law School.
His regional recognition also has an earlier record. ALB included him in its 2024 MENA Super 50 coverage, highlighting his work on legal reference publications concerning Kuwait. Those publications addressed litigation and doing business in the country, connecting domestic legal practice with the information used by international professional audiences.
Chambers’ 2026 profile separately ranks him in Kuwait’s Corporate & Finance category. Together, the directory entry, research contributions and ALB recognition show the different professional settings in which his work is being assessed and published.
A Kuwait practice with a regional footprint
Taher Group traces its establishment in Kuwait to 1969. Its institutional history names Dr. Jamal Eddin Ateyyah as the lawyer who established the practice, with Abdulaziz, Khaled and Jamal Taher Alkhateeb and Fawaz Khaled Alkhateeb among the practitioners who have subsequently shaped its development.
The firm operates from Kuwait and also maintains an office in Cairo. Its work covers commercial and corporate matters, finance, regulation and dispute resolution. That combination gives the latest recognition a wider institutional setting: two named lawyers within a practice serving clients across different areas of law and more than one jurisdiction.
The next scheduled development is the ALB Middle East Law Awards on 5 November. For now, the 2026 Super 50 selection brings the firm’s founding leadership and current management together in a single regional list.
