The Ministry of Interior announced that joint inspection campaigns across Saudi Arabia from September 10 to 16 resulted in the arrest of 14782 individuals for breaching residency labour and border security regulations. Ministry figures show the total comprised 7438 residency law violators along with 3782 who breached border security rules and 3562 labour law violators. The ministry added that 12635 people were deported during the period while 18986 were referred to their diplomatic missions to secure travel documents and another 3834 were directed to finalise travel reservations.

Authorities arrested 1450 people attempting illegal entry into the kingdom during the same week according to the ministry with 56 percent identified as Ethiopian nationals 43 percent as Yemenis and the remaining 1 percent from other nationalities. The ministry reported that 25 individuals were detained while trying to leave the country unlawfully and 23 others faced arrest for transporting sheltering or employing violators. A total of 31075 expatriates including 29171 men and 1904 women remain subject to legal procedures related to these violations the ministry stated.

The Ministry of Interior warned that facilitating illegal entry transportation shelter or assistance to violators carries penalties of up to 15 years in prison and fines reaching 1 million Saudi riyals. Such cases can also result in confiscation of any vehicles or properties used in the offences the ministry emphasised in its statement. These measures form part of sustained enforcement to maintain regulatory compliance across the kingdom’s labour and immigration framework.

Similar campaigns have produced comparable results in preceding weeks with Gulf News reporting 12613 deportations for the period ending July 29 and 12292 for the week through July 1. The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development introduced a revised schedule of labour violations and associated penalties in February 2026 that placed temporary contracts exceeding 90 days under full labour law provisions. That update also raised fines for breaches such as failure to provide required maternity leave or childcare facilities according to People Matters Global.

The latest enforcement drive coincides with broader government efforts to tighten oversight of work permits and residency rules that have been documented in multiple ministry announcements throughout 2026. Public Authority for Civil Information statistics have long shown expatriates forming a majority of the private sector workforce heightening the focus on compliance with labour regulations. Coordination between the interior ministry and human resources authorities has intensified inspections to address both individual violations and employer-side infractions.

Ministry of Interior statements have consistently highlighted that individuals and entities aiding violators will face the full extent of prescribed punishments including potential criminal referrals. The current figures reflect continued operations that combine field arrests with subsequent administrative processing for deportation or regularisation. Such weekly updates serve to underscore the scale of ongoing regulatory campaigns targeting irregular labour and residency arrangements.
