Nationale-Nederlanden said in a statement that the acquisition of Samenwerking Glasverzekering will strengthen its commercial insurance portfolio by combining fire coverage with specialist glass products backed by a digital claims repair network. The Dutch insurer already shares a market presence with the target through networks of authorised agents, advisers and exchange brokers, making the deal a natural fit for its plans for sustainable growth in the business segment. The transaction, which covers all shares in the glass specialist, remains subject to approval by De Nederlandsche Bank.
Samenwerking Glasverzekering maintains offices in Zutphen and Rotterdam and concentrates on the commercial market that includes housing corporations, homeowners associations, municipalities, real estate organisations and small and medium-sized enterprises. The firm pairs deep insurance knowledge with a digitally supported claims process and a nationwide pool of affiliated glass repair companies. Its Solvency and Financial Condition Report placed own funds at €10.6 million on a Solvency II basis in the period leading up to the transaction.
Edwin Grutterink, director of NN Schade Intermediair, said in the announcement, “The acquisition is a valuable addition to our portfolio of fire insurances. We both operate in the same market through a broad network of authorized agents, advisors and exchange brokers.” Grutterink added that the combination would deliver a complete proposition of fire and glass insurance to customers while retaining the entrepreneurial approach and long-standing relationships built by Samenwerking Glasverzekering. The statement underlined that current management and employees would remain central to future development.
Flip Juch, chairman of Samenwerking Glasverzekering, stated in the release, “SGV has built a special position in the Dutch insurance market thanks to the knowledge and commitment of our employees and the long-term collaboration with our distributor and repair partners. With Nationale-Nederlanden we gain access to a larger network, additional expertise and new opportunities to further develop our services. This creates a strong foundation for the further growth and continuity of SGV.”
Existing policies and cooperation agreements will continue unchanged for customers and partners after the deal closes, according to the announcement. Both organisations plan a measured integration that places service continuity at its core. The acquiring group emphasised that the specialist knowledge, customer relationships and repair network developed by Samenwerking Glasverzekering would be preserved.
The sale allows parent Stichting Samenwerking Beheer to redirect proceeds toward new initiatives of societal value, the statement noted. Baker McKenzie advised Samenwerking Glasverzekering on the sale of its shares to Nationale-Nederlanden, according to the law firm’s announcement. A team led by Mohammed Almarini and Laila Kouchi supported the seller across multiple practice areas.
Nationale-Nederlanden supplies insurance, pension and banking services to more than six million customers across the Netherlands and forms part of NN Group, which maintains operations in ten countries and trades on Euronext Amsterdam. The glass insurance niche has witnessed further consolidation in recent years, with De Goudse Verzekeringen taking a 35 percent stake in Midglas in 2023 as outlined in a Houthoff client briefing. Company profiles show Samenwerking Glasverzekering traces its roots to mutual risk-sharing efforts among Zutphen retailers that began in 1919.
