The Port of Duqm Company SAOC welcomed Kuwait Minister of Public Works Dr Noura Mohammed Al-Mashaan and her accompanying delegation at the port facility in the presence of Oman Minister of Transport Communications and Information Technology Eng Said Hamoud Al Maawali together with Undersecretary for Transport Eng Khamis Mohammed Al-Shamkhi. The visit focused on reviewing the port’s infrastructure and capabilities for supporting regional trade flows and supply chains. Discussions highlighted opportunities for collaboration and knowledge exchange between the two countries according to a statement from the port operator.

A statement issued by the Port of Duqm Company SAOC framed the engagement as reflecting growing cooperation between Oman and Kuwait in the transport and logistics sectors. The delegation examined how the port’s integrated systems handle diverse cargo types while identifying areas where bilateral ties could expand. The announcement added that the visit underscored potential to strengthen logistics integration and elevate both nations’ roles in regional and international trade networks.

Ministry of Transport Communications and IT data show that cargo throughput across Oman’s ports reached 137 million tonnes in 2024 representing a 15 percent increase from the previous year. Duqm Port recorded the highest growth with volumes rising 152 percent across all cargo categories during the same period. These gains build on the facility’s development within Oman’s Special Economic Zone where it serves as a multimodal hub linking maritime road and future rail networks.

The Port of Duqm Company SAOC operates the facility as a joint venture between ASYAD Group and the Antwerp Port Consortium. Its infrastructure features an 8.7-kilometer breakwater commercial berths spanning 2250 meters at 18-meter depth and government service berths measuring 980 meters at 10-meter depth. The setup allows the port to accommodate large container vessels and support sectors ranging from oil and gas to emerging green hydrogen and industrial projects.

Kuwait has advanced its own connectivity initiatives in recent years with Public Works Ministry statements outlining plans to link seaports and railways as part of the Kuwait National Development Strategy to 2035. Earlier participation by Dr Al-Mashaan in GCC transport meetings has emphasized the Gulf Railway Project as a cornerstone for improving trade and mobility across member states. The current visit aligns with that regional framework by targeting practical logistics partnerships with Oman.

Further coordination stemming from the visit could involve technical exchanges on sustainable infrastructure and supply chain resilience according to the Port of Duqm Company SAOC. The operator noted that Duqm’s strategic location on the Arabian Sea positions it as a gateway connecting Asia Africa and Europe. Such attributes complement Kuwait’s port expansion efforts including developments at Mubarak Al-Kabeer and Shuwaikh that aim to enhance overall GCC trade efficiency.
