The global law firm detailed the leadership change in its announcement titled Baker McKenzie Announces the Election of Serhiy Chorny and Hennadiy Voytsitskyi as Co-Managing Partners of its Kyiv Office. According to the statement, Hennadiy Voytsitskyi succeeds Viacheslav Yakymchuk, who has served as co-managing partner since 2023 and will now concentrate on leading the Corporate and M&A Practice Group in Kyiv. Serhiy Chorny, who has held the co-managing role since 2010, will continue alongside Voytsitskyi while heading the office’s Banking, Finance and Capital Markets Practice Groups.

The firm’s statement highlighted Chorny’s advisory work on cross-border lending, structured finance, securitization, debt capital markets and debt restructurings. It noted that he is highly ranked by leading directories including Chambers and Partners, The Legal 500 EMEA and IFLR1000. These assessments reflect his longstanding contribution to the Ukrainian legal market, where the firm has built a significant presence over more than three decades.

Voytsitskyi has led the Tax Practice Group since 2007, advising multinational corporations, investors and high-net-worth individuals on international tax planning, structuring, disputes, litigation and wealth management. The announcement from the firm said he is consistently recognized as a leading tax practitioner by Chambers and Partners, The Legal 500 and ITR World Tax. His promotion strengthens the office’s capabilities in a practice area critical for clients navigating complex cross-border transactions.

Baker McKenzie first established its Kyiv office in 1992, according to a report by the US-Ukraine Business Council marking the firm’s 30th anniversary there in 2022. By August 2026 this amounts to 34 years of continuous operation, during which the office has advised nearly 2,000 clients on investment, recovery and growth matters. The Global Legal Post reported in 2022 that the firm resumed full operations in Ukraine shortly after the initial stages of the 2022 invasion, demonstrating resilience amid ongoing regional difficulties.

The Chambers Europe 2026 guide, released in March, ranked Baker McKenzie among Ukraine’s leading law firms and awarded individual recognition to both Chorny in banking and finance and Voytsitskyi in tax. This latest leadership adjustment builds on that momentum by combining deep local knowledge with the resources of the firm’s global platform. Industry listings from The Legal 500 have similarly highlighted the Kyiv team’s strengths across multiple sectors.

The election signals continuity for the office, which has supported Ukrainian and international clients through a broad range of legal and business issues despite external pressures. With Chorny’s finance expertise and Voytsitskyi’s tax specialization, the firm is positioned to address evolving demands in areas such as restructuring and inbound investment. Further information on the appointments appeared in the official release distributed through the firm’s newsroom and mirrored on platforms including the European Business Association site.
