The Omani Foreign Ministry website confirmed that eligible travelers must still comply with all entry conditions and that those who do not qualify for the exemption require a visa in advance. Bilateral economic ties have expanded alongside the mobility arrangements. Figures from the Observatory of Economic Complexity show Omani exports to China rose to $2.6 billion in the 12 months through May 2026 while imports from China reached $507 million in May 2026 alone, reflecting a 10 percent year-on-year increase. The Omani Foreign Ministry reported that Chinese direct investment in Oman stood at OMR 854 million by the end of the second quarter of 2025, underscoring deepening commercial links that the visa policy is intended to support.
Chinese authorities have described the visa extension as an element of broader efforts to stimulate international travel and reinforce cooperation with partner countries. The Omani embassy statement highlighted that the arrangement would remain in force until December 31, 2026, and would encourage greater movement between the two nations. Similar notices on the Visa for China portal listed the permitted activities uniformly across the covered Gulf states without altering underlying immigration rules for longer stays or employment.
Implementation of the policy requires Omani travelers to carry valid ordinary passports and to observe the 30-day limit on each visit. Chinese visa policy summaries indicate that the exemption does not apply to work-related purposes or any activity outside the listed categories. The Observatory of Economic Complexity data further placed non-oil Omani commodity exports to China above OMR 216 million at the end of 2024, a baseline that officials expect the eased travel conditions to help expand in subsequent years.
The extension aligns with China’s decision to prolong comparable unilateral visa-free programs for more than 40 additional countries through the end of 2026, according to multiple diplomatic notices. Omani officials have welcomed the reciprocity that complements existing arrangements with other Gulf Cooperation Council members.
