The Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority reminded all taxpayers subject to value-added tax to submit their returns no later than April 30 2026. Arabian Business reported on April 21 that the directive covers returns for the first quarter of the year and requires electronic filing through the authority’s official portal to ensure accuracy. ZATCA stressed that late submissions will incur financial penalties ranging from 5 percent to 25 percent depending on the length of the delay.

Officials highlighted that the penalties are designed to reinforce compliance and protect fiscal integrity according to the published reminder. The authority urged taxpayers to review their obligations and complete submissions before the deadline to avoid sanctions. All registered businesses and entities under Saudi VAT law must adhere to the electronic process without exception.

Saudi Arabia introduced value-added tax on January 1 2018 at an initial rate of 5 percent according to a historical overview on Daysum.net. The rate was tripled to 15 percent effective July 1 2020 via royal decree to address fiscal pressures a KPMG analysis found. This standard rate has applied to most taxable supplies since the adjustment and remains in force.

Businesses with annual taxable supplies exceeding 40 million Saudi riyals file monthly returns while those below that threshold follow a quarterly schedule ZATCA guidelines show. The April 30 cutoff applies to the period ending March 2026 for both monthly and quarterly filers according to the authority’s published calendar. Submissions occur exclusively through the digital platform to support efficient processing and oversight.

ZATCA which merged earlier entities in 2021 administers VAT as part of wider tax reforms tied to national diversification efforts its website states. The authority has rolled out phased e-invoicing mandates with integration required for applicable businesses since 2023 a sector compliance guide from SynergyStrat noted. These measures have strengthened record-keeping and reporting standards across registered entities.

Taxpayers must maintain comprehensive transaction records to substantiate their filings a ZATCA compliance document indicated. Collaboration with accountants trained through programs coordinated with the Saudi Organization for Certified Public Accountants often proves essential for adherence. The directive forms part of ongoing efforts to streamline procedures while upholding regulatory requirements.
