Most categories of the UAE Golden Visa require a nomination or endorsement letter from a relevant government authority before applicants can proceed with their residency request, according to a guide published by Emirates 24|7. The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security oversees the process, which begins with an eligibility check on its online platform. Categories such as specialised professionals, doctors, scientists, creatives and athletes typically need approval from ministries including Health and Prevention or Culture before visa processing starts.

Emirates 24|7 reported that individuals in certain fields can pursue self-nomination without an employer sponsor, yet they must still secure a recommendation from the appropriate official body. Senior Emirati advocate Awatif Al Khouri told a related Emirates 24|7 article that specific categories such as doctors or creatives require support from the Ministry of Health and Prevention or the Ministry of Culture. The nomination serves as a prerequisite that confirms the applicant’s qualifications align with national priorities for talent attraction.

Applicants seeking a nomination letter must first verify their eligibility using the ICP’s free online tool, the authority’s service dashboard shows. Required documents include a valid passport with at least six months’ validity, a personal photograph meeting specified standards, valid UAE health insurance and supporting evidence tied to the chosen category such as academic certificates or professional records. The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security accepts these submissions through its digital portal at a fee of Dh150 for the nomination service.

Once the nomination receives approval, applicants can move to the full Golden Visa submission, either via the ICP platform for federal cases or the GDRFA portal for Dubai residents, according to procedural outlines from the authorities. The UAE government portal u.ae lists eligible categories that include investors in public funds or real estate requiring a minimum AED 2 million commitment, entrepreneurs with approved projects and outstanding students with high academic achievement. Nomination letters for talent-based routes come from designated entities such as the UAE Scientists Council or sports councils depending on the field.

Official ICP figures place the Golden Visa as a 5- or 10-year renewable residency permit that allows holders to sponsor spouses, children and in some cases parents along with domestic workers. The Directorate’s data indicates the programme targets individuals contributing to sectors including healthcare, science, culture and entrepreneurship. Processing times average between two and four weeks once all documentation and the nomination are complete, the authority’s guidelines state.

The requirement for government-backed nominations underscores the UAE’s structured approach to long-term residency, as described in materials from the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security. Applicants in investor categories often bypass the nomination step if they meet direct financial thresholds such as property ownership valued at AED 2 million or higher. All submissions must include attested documents where applicable, with the Ministry of Education equivalency required for foreign qualifications in professional and academic routes.
