Kuwait Times reported in its Today in Kuwait’s history column that the Popular Theatrical Troupe launched its first season on October 7, 1957 with the plays Matar Saif and Ummak Teraz Awal. The publication noted that in 1961 the first British Ambassador to Kuwait, John Richmond, presented his credentials to Amir Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah. That same year the state divided into 10 constituencies allowing citizens to vote for two parliamentary candidates in each, with the Constituent Assembly formed shortly afterward.

The 1961 electoral restructuring supported Kuwait’s emerging parliamentary system following independence, according to the Kuwait Times account. The newspaper detailed how these steps contributed to the establishment of representative institutions that continue to function today. Historical records from the National Assembly trace the evolution of these constituencies through multiple redistricting efforts in later decades.

In 1992 Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah signed a decree amending articles in the publication law, Kuwait Times stated. The country also agreed to join the 1987 Montreal Protocol on ozone-depleting substances that year. A United Nations Environment Programme assessment found that the protocol has phased out more than 98 percent of ozone-depleting substances in developed countries and achieved significant reductions worldwide since its ratification.

Kuwait established diplomatic relations with the Republic of Azerbaijan in 1994, the historical feature indicated. This development expanded the Gulf state’s network of partnerships in the post-liberation period. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has since described Azerbaijan as a key partner in energy cooperation and multilateral forums, according to archived statements.

National Assembly elections took place on October 7, 1996 with voters selecting 50 members from 230 competing candidates, according to Kuwait Times. The poll drew widespread participation and reflected ongoing political engagement following the restoration of parliamentary life. Subsequent election cycles have seen varying numbers of candidates and turnout rates tracked by the Ministry of Interior.

Hawally Governor Ibrahim Al-Mudhaf died at the age of 68 on this date in 2000, the report recalled. In 2025 the government approved draft decrees allowing courts to issue electronic verdicts in simple cases while amending Article 4 of the Zakat House law. These approvals form part of broader judicial digitization initiatives that the Ministry of Justice has pursued to reduce processing times and enhance efficiency across the court system.
